Touring the Pediatric Oncology Facilities at BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital!
We had the incredible opportunity to tour the pediatric oncology facilities at BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Bharatpur. Dr. Krishna Sagar Sharma, the head of the department, graciously showed us around and shared the remarkable growth of the department since 2006.
From humble beginnings with just one leftover room, the pediatric oncology department has expanded to accommodate 29 beds for children battling cancer. Dr. Sharma also mentioned that they are working on opening up an additional 8 beds, currently occupied by adults, to cater specifically to children undergoing cancer treatment.
One of the most heartening aspects of our visit was learning that no cancer patient is charged for medication, surgeries, chemotherapy, or radiation directly related to their cancer treatment. This commitment to providing free medical care ensures that children battling cancer receive the treatment they need without financial burden.
Dr. Sharma also showed us the palliative care area, which not only offers hospice for end-of-life care but also provides support for children dealing with issues like malnourishment or wound care, helping them build strength for cancer treatment.
During our tour of the hospital campus, we explored various housing options available for patients to rent. These accommodations range from 25 Nepali rupees per day to 1000 Nepali rupees per day, ensuring that families have affordable and convenient housing options while their children receive treatment.
We are deeply impressed by the dedication and compassion of the staff at BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital and grateful for the invaluable services they provide to children battling cancer.
A special thank you to Dr. Krishna Sagar Sharma and his team for their warm welcome and insightful tour. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of children fighting cancer. ππ¦
